Infanta Magnoliata # 2- 2019
Oil on canvas. H83.5 x W61cm. Oil on canvas
Painting derived from sculpture Infanta Magnoliata # 1. Similarly, this image contrasts the biologically organic in nature with an artificially superimposition of fashionable (late renaissance period) societal refinement and sophistication. It implies a co-existence of diametrically opposed currents in human conduct – the ‘natural’ root system of the Magnolia which, coincidently emphasizes the contemporary obsessive interest in personal genealogy and additionally, the simulated synthetic ruff, an outward man-made accoutrement which symbolically denotes an elevated social position. There is a heightened intensity achieved via the otherworldly burning orbs.
