Lachlan Brown – 2016

Pen drawing on paper. H 23 x W 20 cm

Lachlan is my nephew by marriage. On vacation in Perth his mother Belinda asked if I would make a quick sketch portrait of him. Asking him to sit still and not to move I made a rapid rendering. When I was finished he insisted that he would then do a portrait of me to which I agreed. Mimicking me he said that “I must sit still and not move”. Agreeing to his conditions I couldn’t help noticing that for the duration of his drawing his subject (me) _ he never once actually looked at me. Ah the confidence of youth.
