Study for the birth of Apollinaire – 1983

Commissioned to make a suite of paintings for David Hoenigsberg’s cross disciplinary“the Life and Times of Apollinare”, this was the initial sketch for the birth of Apollinaire. The central vaginal canal/ pudenda-like form, was loosely based on the Coco de Mer. The umbilicus of artistic tradition which Apollinaire would would break is a very fine thread – a mere ‘poetic’ line.
