In this image of a pair of over-sized entwined feet I have personified each foot and assigned them different genders. It is effectively a passionate embrace, the tensed upper, more masculine foot leans into and onto the receptive voluptuous female counterpart below whose toes are welcomingly stirred by the close contact. The idea was inspired by Bernini’s sculptural rendering of the foot in his Ecstasy of St Theresa. The physical placement of the feet came precariously close to the edge on the right. To compensate compositionally I added a couple of panels extending the image, the lower added panel follows the horizon line and introduces a modest modernist touch to an otherwise naturalistic anatomical view.
