VANITAS

The Orange Regional Art Gallery is pleased to announce the presentation of a stunning art exhibition Vanitas by Orange resident professional artist.

Victor Gordon’s artwork is provocative and visually riveting. This survey exhibition covers a wide variety of Gordon’s artistic concerns. They include highly confronting imagery as well as sensitive and sometimes humorous works. many of which will stimulate your senses. [Victor holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney]

This exhibition is a broad representation of Victor’s artwork spanning a quarter of a century. The body of work includes examples of past socio-political work [the artist originally comes from South Africa], as well as many insightful pieces addressing many of today’s current issues. The show includes paintings, photographs, collages, assemblages, sculpture and installation.

The exhibition will be formally opened by Dr Kit Messham-Muir of the University of Sydney on Friday evening at 6:00pm on 27th May 2005 at the Orange Regional Art Gallery. Byng Street, Orange. NSW.

A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere by noted Orange-based cellist Susan Langbein of the short musical piece ‘Eight’ composed by the late expatriate South African David Hoenigsberg. This piece of music was commissioned by Victor in 1990.

The launch will be sponsored by Word of Mouth Wines of Orange. The image of the lips on all their wine bottle labels was painted by Victor Gordon. This is a fabulous example of dynamic local synergy showcasing Orange’s high quality produce being represented and promoted by an Orange artist.

Victor Gordon’s artist website victorgordon.com will be launched to coincide with the exhibition. The site was designed and sponsored by Orange’s leading design company Sauce Design.
